The Video Platform Provides Users Control to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Media in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a fresh option that enables them to reduce the amount of artificial intelligence-produced media appearing in their streams. This step comes as the platform disclosed that it now features over 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Testing and Rollout

The update is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a global release. This development coincides with a surge in AI content, driven by recent AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

It has been noted that nearly a tenth of the fastest-growing content creators on a popular video site primarily display content made by AI. A significant portion of this output is considered low-quality AI content, a phrase for substandard, mass-produced content that is often nonsensical or dreamlike.

Based on user feedback that many people enjoy content produced via AI tools, including computer-generated images to informative clips, and we want to offer the community the option to adjust the amount of that, according to their own choices,” commented a spokesperson.

AI on the Platform

TikTok shared that there are currently over a billion videos on its app tagged as AI-generated. Collectively, more than 100 million media items are added to the app each day, making AI content a limited percentage of its overall inventory.

User Control Features

Members will be able to reduce or increase the volume of artificial media they see by opening the “manage topic” feature in the platform and picking “AI-generated content”. Additional categories that are already be controlled under the tool cover current affairs, clothing, beauty, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

The platform’s rules require creators to tag “realistic” AI-made content, and it bans harmful AI impersonations of celebrities or critical incidents. Any realistic AI video that is unmarked can be taken down under its community policies.

Furthermore, the service will now add an artificially created tag to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or detected by an collaborative effort for spotting artificial media. This action is intended to help prevent users from attempting to bypass the labeling process.

Educational Initiatives

The company is furthermore establishing a $2 million awareness program for professionals and institutions to create educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This project will assist non-profit groups focused on training programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has defended its content review process, during controversy over proposals to lay off numerous content moderators in Britain. It is planning to eliminate hundreds of positions in its user protection division in its British office, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that human moderation would continue to be important, but automated tools can safeguard staff by filtering out the most graphic content prior to it has to be seen by humans. TikTok stated a significant reduction in explicit and harmful content handled by human moderators over the previous year due to intervention by its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate humans and technology to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with unsafe media as quickly as possible, which is the area in which a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
